Gunpowder Tea

Named for its strong flavor and dark green liquor, Gunpowder tea has a smoky and bold taste. This hazy, oaken flavoured tea is native to the heavenly hills of Zhejiang Province in China and is also called pearl tea because of the tightly rolled pellets, which explode in the water as they unroll and expand. The name is derived from the abundance of twisted tea leaves. 

Gunpowder's processing is what gives it the roasted, woody aroma and flavour. The tea is closely rolled into small pellets and is oxidized, but not fermented. This results in dark green colour, and a lighter flavour than normal oolong. 

Gunpowder Tea has a distinctive minty flavour and a delightful grass scent. The tea often has a bitter taste and its refreshing piquancy can be enhanced by adding a minute amount of sugar.

The coppery kick and strong taste of the liquor provide a mouthfeel unlike any other.
